Nicki Roman, saxophone; Kyle Bruckmann, oboe; Dana Jessen, bassoon; Jeff Anderle, bass clarinet; Bill Kalinkos, clarinet

Contemporary compositions for reed quintet with and without electronics by composers including Seare Ahmad Farhat, Jasmine Morris, Dan VanHassel, Phillip Sink, Paula Matthusen, and Ellen Fullman.

Born and forever spiritually grounded in the Bay Area’s vibrant New Music community despite all members but oboist Kyle Bruckmann now living dispersed across the country, Splinter Reeds is arguably the most adventurous reed quintet on the contemporary “classical” circuit. Since their 2013 founding, they have premiered dozens of works written for them, conducted academic residencies across the country, and appeared at festivals including Long Play, Time:Spans (NYC), FeNAM (Sacramento), Taproot (UC Davis), and Music Current (Dublin, Ireland).

This program will consist entirely of works they’ve never performed in the Bay Area before.

Location: Dresher Ensemble Studio, 2201 Poplar Street Oakland, CA United States
