SUMMARY:Maple Quartet
DESCRIPTION:We warmly invite you to this benefit concert in support of the Maple Quartet. Your generosity will help these four remarkable young musicians continue building a shared artistic life across four conservatories\, making possible the rehearsals\, coaching\, travel\, and competitions essential to the development of a professional string quartet. As they begin this exciting new chapter of advanced study and national recognition\, we are especially delighted to help support their artistic journey. \nFounded in 2022 at the Eastman School of Music\, the award winning Maple Quartet is defined by their unified passion for community engagement through performance and presentation in the string quartet medium. \nWhile studying together at Eastman\, members Isabel Chen\, Magali Pelletey\, John Crowley\, and Gabriel Hennebury\, were two time recipients of the Celentano String Quartet Award\, an honor recognizing an undergraduate string quartet of outstanding ability. SUMMARY:The Sky Is A SuitcaseInsect Life
DESCRIPTION:The Sky Is A Suitcase (from Seattle)\nMike Gebhart – drums\nCarmen Rothwell – bass\nLevi Gillis – tenor sax\nRay Larsen – trumpet \n\n\n\nThe Sky is a Suitcase is dedicated to improvisation. Their songs are personal – about dreams\, places\, people and memories. These memories manifest their mood in the melodies and rhythms the group uses to express themselves in the moment. The Sky is a Suitcase imbues in their music the fullness of their collective humanity as a band and the intricacies of their relationships \n\n\n\nInsect Life\nBen Goldberg – clarinet\nBen Davis – cello\nDanny Lubin-Laden – trombone\nRaffi Garabedian – saxophone \nBorn from weekly collaborative sessions at Ben Goldberg’s house\, INSECT LIFE is an Oakland-based experimental ensemble dedicated to pushing the boundaries of improvised music. The band emphasizes spontaneity\, orchestral cohesion\, and an adventurous sonic palette that fuses avant-garde and abstract elements. Over time\, they developed a distinctive collective approach\, creating an instant orchestral sound where cello and drums interact with winds\, driving rhythm and texture in unexpected\, groovy\, and abstract directions. The result is a cosmic\, dynamic\, and innovative sound—modern yet deeply rooted in the old-school spirit of improvisation.
