SUMMARY:Eva-Maria Zimmermann\, Graham Viegut\, Dayu Mang Ana - Kreasi Kontemporer
DESCRIPTION:Eva-Maria (piano)\, Graham (percussion)\, Dayu Mang (gamelan)\, and guests present musical creations from the international gamelan community. \nKREASI KONTEMPORER (contemporary creation) will feature an eclectic array of solo and chamber music\, from dense\, notated contemporary solos to free explorations\, all drawn from prominent composers\, performers\, and practitioners on the global gamelan scene. Piano\, percussion\, gamelan\, and vocals will be highlighted throughout the evening. Composers include Dewa Alit\, Wayan Yudane\, Théo Mérigeau\, and more. Special guests and collaborations to be announced. \n \nEva-Maria Zimmermann is a Swiss-American pianist based in San Francisco. She has performed in Poland\, France\, Switzerland\, Australia\, Japan\, Korea\, and the USA\, both as soloist and as member of the Grammy-nominated piano duet ZOFO. The one-piano four-hands team has commissioned over 30 composers\, including William Bolcom\, Gabriela Lena Frank\, Terry Riley\, Putu Septa\, Carl Vine\, Keyla Orozco\, Pawel Mykietin\, Akira Nishimura\, Franghiz Ali-Zadeh\, Wayan Yudane\, Kenji Oh\, and Lei Liang. Eva-Maria is long-time music faculty at the Nueva School and currently a member of the Balinese gamelan orchestra Gamelan Sekar Jaya. \nIda Ayu Nyoman Dyana Pani began studying the arts at the age of 5 under her father’s guidance. Music\, dancing\, and singing became part of her family’s daily routine\, eventually developing into an arts studio (Maha Bajra Sandhi). This rigorous education\, which focused on mastering several arts (multi-talented)\, led her to numerous performance opportunities at the regional\, national\, and international levels. Her special talents lie in playing the drums/musician\, mastering traditional vocal arts\, including Kidung\, Cecangkriman\, Kekawin\, and Palawakya. She is currently Artist-in-Residence at Gamelan Sekar Jaya. \nGraham Viegut is an American performer\, creative\, and educator whose art is driven by the insatiable curiosities of sound. As a percussionist/drummer\, he is active performing at festivals as varied as Montreux Jazz Festival Miami to Bang on a Can LOUD Weekend\, in venues ranging from 2\,000 seat concert halls to street parades\, and playing music stretching from orchestral standards to pop and rock clubs to free improvisation. Recent highlights include performing at III Points and Joshua Tree Music Festival\, reimagining orchestral music with Nu Deco Ensemble\, winning first place at the NYC Carnival Panorama with Pan Evolution Steel Orchestra\, and producing independent events ranging from contemporary chamber music nights to interdisciplinary gallery happenings.

SUMMARY:BASSOON TRANSFORMATIONS: Paul Hanson--Improbable Territory
DESCRIPTION:Solo Electric Bassoon with Loops/Effects; Duo with pianist Unpil Baek. Originals by Paul plus music by Glen Campbell\, Wayne Shorter\, Sting\, Tigran Hamasyan & Ralph Towner. \nPaul Hanson has spent more than three decades expanding the vocabulary of the bassoon and challenging expectations of what the instrument can do. From his roots as an award-winning classical bassoonist and jazz saxophonist\, he has developed a unique voice incorporating improvisation\, jazz\, fusion\, funk\, world music\, looping\, and electronics. \nPaul has recorded and performed with artists including Béla Fleck and the Flecktones\, Jon Batiste\, Wayne Shorter\, Billy Cobham\, Charlie Hunter\, Michael Manring\, and Omar Sosa\, and has appeared at Carnegie Hall and major jazz festivals throughout the United States and Europe. \nIn 2008\, Paul created the role of electric improvising bassoonist for Cirque du Soleil’s *ZED* at Tokyo Disney Resort. In 2022\, he performed acoustic and electric bassoon in Jon Batiste’s *American Symphony* at Carnegie Hall\, later featured in the film *American Symphony*. \nPaul’s newest album\, *The Outer Banks*\, released in September 2026 on Abstract Logix\, features Charlie Hunter\, Jeff Sipe\, and Bill Stevens. He continues to explore acoustic and electric bassoon through original music\, improvisation\, electronics\, and music from across genres. \nUnpil Baek is an improvisational musician based in Berkeley\, California. Rooted in classical piano and shaped by jazz\, his music draws from a wide field of traditions\, including classical\, sacred\, experimental\, and global improvisational practices. He has performed with Charith Premawardhana\, Phillip Gelb\, Bay Area jazz string quartet Vitamin EM\, Quantaikotech with Chris Trinidad\, and others. \nA lover of all kinds of music\, Unpil approaches improvisation as a space where different languages can meet—between traditions\, between people\, and between inherited forms and new possibilities. His work seeks to honor the diversity of musical expression while shaping these encounters into a coherent musical whole. \nUnpil is also a research scientist in quantum computing\, machine learning\, and artificial intelligence.
